SpongeBob image in infobox

[edit]

Why was the image of SpongeBob in the infobox changed? The previous image had a non-free use rationale, yet one editor claimed it wasn't licensed. TarantulaTM (speak with me) (my legacy) 05:47, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use rationales are for unlicensed files. They can be used, per WP:NFCC, only when there is no available free replacement. Nickelodeon released some clips from SpongeBob under a CC-BY license on YouTube, and screenshots from these clips can be used for the character, so such an image must be used and there is no rationale under WP:NFCC for the use of an unlicensed image. (This picture is from a montage of characters shown in the clip, but there are other frames you could use too.) D. Benjamin Miller (talk) 00:01, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I want to read the discussion you linked but now it's long gone. Neocorelight (Talk) 05:38, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Naive or naïve?

[edit]

I know it's a really small detail, and pretty much insignificant, but still, I think it's worth asking. Should, under "Role in SpongeBob SquarePants", it be spelt naive or naïve? SonOfYoutubers (talk) 01:26, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 17 August 2024; Tom Kenny's autism comments

[edit]

The last edit to this article mentions that Tom Kenny has since clarified that his comments about SpongeBob being autistic were not official statements, but the article has not yet been updated to reflect that. The source for this comes from an interview with Entertainment Weekly three days after he made the comments at the same convention. A video of Kenny's clarification in the interview is embedded in the article; this is the clarification:

"I'm not a medical doctor and SpongeBob is imaginary, an imaginary character, so I'm not really qualified to speak. But yeah, a young person with autism who is on the spectrum said to me — basically he was asking me, 'I'm like this, is SpongeBob like me?' And I said, 'Yeah, he is. SpongeBob's a lot like you. You guys are the same and you're both awesome. That was a nice moment and I never meant for it to go public or anything. It was just kind of this private moment that I had with a fan but it seems like it's been empowering and helpful to people out there."

Please change this part at the end of the Cultural impact and legacy section: When asked by a neurodivergent fan at a convention if SpongeBob is on the autism spectrum, Kenny confirmed this, responding "That's his superpower, the same way that it's your superpower."[1]

To this one: In 2024, a neurodivergent fan asked Kenny at a convention if SpongeBob is on the autism spectrum, to which he responded: "That's his superpower, the same way that it's your superpower."[2] Kenny clarified during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he did not intend for this to be an official public statement about the character, and called it a "private moment that I had with a fan but it seems like it's been empowering and helpful to people out there."[3]

Sorry at the time I posted this edit request I was still unable to. I think it's because I had just gotten my username changed and was still seeing the View source button so it must not have rolled over yet, but I have since incorporated this source into the article.
