Portuguese Empire

[edit]

I thought you might be interested to know that Catarina Eufémia has been removed from the Good Articles list (the reasons are on its talk page.) If you know of some good references to add to it (or if you can properly cite the ones that are there) that would be great... I was going to tell Mário about it since he had somewhat of an investment in it, which is when I found out that he had left the building. :-( Thanks! Grandmasterka 06:59, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Peniche prison

[edit]

Hi, I am looking for confirmation of the existence of a prison at Peniche during the Salazar period. There is nothing at the Peniche page about the prison. Do you have any information?

Hi, please don't revert all my edits to this article in one fell swoop - the version you revert it to is a clear copyvio of http://www.manutdzone.com/playerpages/CarlosQueiroz.htm I know I've axed quite a bit of the article, but without doing that I would have put it up for deletion because of the copyvio. Please share your thoughts on my talk page. Poulsen 05:52, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. I probably shouldn't have removed the honor title from the start, but it was redlinked and I couldn't find the exact thing with a quick google search. But it's good to see it has an article now! Cheers. Poulsen 16:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Henry of Portugal.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Henry of Portugal.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. User:Angr 13:46, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Artigo sobre Lídia Jorge

[edit]

Novamente obrigado, Nuno Gabriel Cabral 16:55, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Imagem no Portal

[edit]

Hi Joaopais! I was wondering if you might like to help expand this article by translation from the featured Portuguese article. I don't speak or read Portuguese, so I've just created a stub by translating some of es:Censura en Portugal. But I really think the English Wikipedia needs to cover this topic in greater depth than just a stub article. Can you help? Thank you! -Fsotrain09 21:58, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excelente trabalho!

[edit]

Portuguese football league system

[edit]

Question about Portuguese history

[edit]

Given your apparent extensive knowledge about Portuguese history, I'd like to ask you a question about coups and military uprisings in Portugal. Recently, the head of the Thai military junta said that he learned from the "Portuguese example" when he planned to stage his coup on the same day as an anti-government rally. My first guess is that he was referring to 5 October 1910, when the military seized power on the same day as a major republican demonstration. But where there any other successful coups in Portugal that coincided with major protests? Patiwat 01:33, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comité Olímpico de Portugal

[edit]

Obrigadinho! --Lazar Taxon 22:49, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Mario_Soares.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mario_Soares.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yonatan (contribs/talk) 14:36, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Alfredo de Sa Cardoso.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Alfredo de Sa Cardoso.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Macau 2006 Jogos da Lusofonia.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:07, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for pointing out the error and thanks for the praise :-) If anything else needs to be changed/added, just let me know. From now on the image is here commons:Image:Portugal Army.png (not anymore on english Wikipedia). I made a Portuguese version of the image just now: commons:Image:Exército Português.png, but I did not add it to the article Exército Português yet, as I'm a bit confused, because according to the English wikipedia the 3rd Paratrooper Infantry Battalion has been dissolved and the Grupo de Artilharia de Campanha of the Rapid Reaction Brigade have been handed over to the Intervention Brigade. In exchange a Commando Battalion and Special Operations Forces Battalion have been added to the Rapid Reaction Brigade. The Portuguese graphic is made accordingly see here, but the English graphic is still the old version see here. Could you please help to clarify this issue? I tried, but the official Portuguese Army website, does not help (it always get "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'" when I click on Organização). Thank you in adavance for any help, --noclador 09:15, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Template:Portuguese District Football Associations, by Shadyaftrmathgunit (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Template:Portuguese District Football Associations fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

moved all this info into the Football in Portugal template so this template is no longer needed

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Template:Portuguese District Football Associations, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Template:Portuguese District Football Associations itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 16:34, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the speedy tag and opened a discussion about it at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2007 June 18. Cheers! -- lucasbfr talk 11:16, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Joaopais;

Thanks for leaving me a message on my page. I don't think that the lengthy titles are required in the template, or even several of the titles for any given title. It should be narrowed down to the one title used most to refer to the person, for the sake of brevity and clarity. Granted, some titles are importants, such as the title indicated the first among the infantes, however it is not used in daily use to refer to the person. Charles 15:10, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Joao, I notice you previously edited Eduardo Souto de Moura, the article appears to have existed for three years as an unverified stub with one external blogspot link.. There must be sources to put this in line with WP:BIO? There also seems to be a disagreement over whether he or Álvaro Siza Vieira designed Trindade (station), any ideas? Thanks for uploading Image:3rd Count of Castelho Melhor.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi Joaopais. Knowing that you have an interest in an unconnected featured portal, I wondered if you might like to comment on the one I've been working on - energy portal - which is now under consideration for featured status. Compared to other candidates it has had relatively few people contributing to the debate, despite being up for discussion for 2 months. If you have time perhaps you would like to take a look? The candidate page can be found here. Gralo 18:45, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Portuguese footballers

[edit]

Using full name, because, to disambiguation people! Even using First name and last name, it still lot of people of same name with different "mid". So, at least don't move the pages to just have their common one word shirt name, for example Dani and Carlos.

Better you search it form http://www.zerozero.pt, to look for some professional footballer with same name but don't have a wiki article. There is lots for Portuguese footballers in top division football, but don't have article. Matthew_hk tc 17:32, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:General Carmona.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:General Carmona.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:48, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LOTD experiment

My userpage List of the Day experiment is getting under way at WP:LOTD. One of your lists has been nominated. I invite you to come by and represent it. If you would like to represent your list article please reformat your username in the table so it is normal sized. Among the things you may want to do to represent your list are:

  1. Change the image selection
  2. Add talk page projects to the list and then add them on the summary table
  3. Write a summary of the article in less than 500 characters. I will begin doing this later today for those who don't do it themselves.
  4. Participate in the feed back process when it starts on December 1.
  5. Participate in the voting when it starts on December 11.

You are free to remain uninvolved. Your list was chosen for being among the first [[WP:FL]s ever created.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 19:06, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Freitas do Amaral.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Freitas do Amaral.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:45, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Maia Pinto.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Maia Pinto.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 01:06, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Joao III of Portugal.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

Hi,

1st of all, sorry to write to you in English, since we're Portuguese-speakers. It is that i suppose we should make our communication more widely available to other English Wikipedia editors.

That said, i'd like to congratulate you for your impressive work in Wikipedia.

I'm writing because i'd like to tell you about the need to distinguish three different persons: a Brazilian painter from 19th century, an Argentinian football player and a Portuguese politician, all named Humberto Rosa.

Since no mention to any others was available when i created the article, i'd suggest that the Brazilian painter Humberto Rosa be the owner of the name, and all others should have a distinguishing suffix. For instance, i already proposed Humberto Rosa (football player) for the Argentinian guy, and would like to suggest you to use Humberto Rosa (politician).

What do you think ?

All the best,

Thanks for uploading File:Bernardino Machado 2.jpg.

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Joaopais! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 708 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Bruno Costa - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Fair use rationale for File:Alfredo Rodrigues Gaspar.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Alfredo Rodrigues Gaspar.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. Thanks for uploading File:Freitas do Amaral.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

The article Os Grandes Portugueses has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, possibly copyvio. cf. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/200 Greatest Israelis. List articles that simply reproduce lists published elsewhere are non-notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Justin (koavf)TCM07:43, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Os Grandes Portugueses for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Os Grandes Portugueses is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Os Grandes Portugueses until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. —Justin (koavf)TCM19:00, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Replaceable fair use File:Ramalho Eanes (official).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ramalho Eanes (official).jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. DrKay (talk) 21:19, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Lusophone Games

[edit]

Hi, I don't know if you're still active, but I just wandered into the talk page on the Lusofonia Games that you edited in 2006. The correct English translation is "Lusophone," not "Lusophony" which doesn't exist as a word in Engllish. This means a lot of pages/page titles would have to be changed. But as it is, there are dozens of Wikipedia pages with a non-existent English word in their title. What to do? I am also copying the other contributor on that talk page. Maybe we should continue the conversation there? Bruxism (talk) 05:15, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Costa Gomes (official).jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Costa Gomes (official).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Invite to Join WikiProject for Spoken Wikipedia

[edit]
Hi Joaopais! I am Galendalia and I have revived the WikiProject for Spoken Wikipedia. I noticed that you signed up at some point to be a participant and as I am reviving this project, one of my tasks is to get the participant list in order. Would you please go to the Participants List and add your name and language(s) you speak? If you are already there and do not want to be, please move yourself to the inactive list at the bottom of the page. If you want to remain, please put remain next to your name (this way you are not moved). If I do not see anything from you by May 30, 2020, I will move you to the inactive participant list. It would also be great if you would be willing to join the task force for Pronunciation that would be awesome, as there are troublesome words we run into.

Thank you for considering joining us. If you decide to leave, I will be sad to see you leave as so many people have done a great job on the recordings and any work you have done makes a significant difference.
