Chairman

[edit]

Hello - there's a number of individuals who are women and either describe themselves as chair or chairwoman. Clydebank F.C. might be a good example. Is there a constructive way of reflecting this in this template? Macarism (talk) 18:23, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Macarism: Yes, you can use the function chrtitle to change it from the default 'Chairman'. Cheers, Number 57 20:18, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The |2= parameter in {{URL}} is deprecated per its documentation. Removing this would consequently remove the generic "Official website" label, allowing readers to see and understand what the domain name of a club's website is, without forcing them to click through to it. — AFC Vixen 🦊 20:20, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: I agree that the reader should see the URL itself, rather than generic text. For consistency across all infobox templates, I've removed the {{URL}} wrapping the input. Uses of the template will have to wrap it with URL or {{Official website}}. Very few articles ought to break. Most of the time people will add https:// to the URL, and the parser will generate an HTML link. I suspect somewhere someone has put a URL without a URI scheme, and that will need to be fixed. Add a paragraph on the template of "Infobox football club"

[edit]

Hi Wikipedia editors!

I want someone from you that reads my message, to add a template on the "Infobox football club" for "assistant_coach" in order for the Wikipedia editors that edit articles for sports clubs, in this case football clubs, to add information on a specific football club for "Assistant coach" of that team. I would be so happy if someone from you that reads this message and edits templates, will add this template: "assistant_coach" on the "Infobox football club".

Thanks SianWeng31 (talk) 07:38, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Assistant coaches are very rarely important or notable. Adding this parameter to the template would encourage people to add content where it isn't warranted. I oppose the addition of this parameter. – PeeJay 13:59, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PeeJay No, you are wrong. Almost any major or even lessly know football clubs have an assistant coach. Even the major women's football clubs now have assistant coaches. So this parameter should be added. I want from the contributors to add it. Thanks SianWeng31 (talk) 14:34, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Did I say clubs didn't have assistant coaches? No, so don't put words in my mouth. What I said was that assistant coaches – even those of big clubs – are not sufficiently important or notable to mention in the infobox of a Wikipedia article. My opposition stands. – PeeJay 15:44, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose — The purpose of an infobox (MOS:IBP) is to summarise the most important information in a given article. That the role is literally called an "assistant coach" implies they're not as sufficently important or notable as the head coach of a club to warrant their inclusion in, quite frankly, an already lengthy and bloated infobox. We should strive to keep infoboxes short, simple, and to the point. — AFC Vixen 🦊 16:08, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AFC Vixen@PeeJay Only add this parameter for the "assistant coach" on the "infobox football club" and no other parameters are needed. It is really necessary, believe me. Someone who edits articles about football clubs, may add information about an assistant coach in order to inform the user about that person who assists the team behind the coach. See for example, the Polish Wikipedia has this parameter. Maybe another Wikipedia edition may have it, but I know that on the Polish Wiki it exists. Thanks for understanding me SianWeng31 (talk) 21:32, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You've made your case, please drop the stick. – PeeJay 21:37, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This seems like unnecessary bloat to me. Number 57 00:46, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AFC Vixen@PeeJay@Number 57 Can you add at least the "vice president" parameter in order for the users which edits articles for football clubs and have this information, to add it. Thanks SianWeng31 (talk) 10:32, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you provide an example of where this would be necessary? Vice presidents are usually as non-notable as assistant coaches, so why would we need to add them to the infobox? – PeeJay 11:30, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AFC Vixen @PeeJay@Number 57 Adding parameter for vice presidents is needed as vice presidents are who can act as president when the president doesn't take its role in a particular time. Also adding parameter for assistant coaches is needed as assistant coaches are the coaches who assist teams in a football match behind the main coach (they can substitute a coach in a match) and they play a very important role in team managing together with the coach to assist the team how to play. For these reasons these parameters should be added. You can add them, it doesn't cost you anything. These parameters can be on this infobox, and the userd who edit articles about football clubs can add these info at the articles for football clubs. Please consider my desire to see these parameters available on this infobox. Thanks SianWeng31 (talk) 14:47, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Nobody wants it. Thanks. Seasider53 (talk) 15:10, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Seasider53 I am saying just to be as parameters on the infobox. Maybe in the future, people will see interest to add information in different football clubs about these persons who have a role at a football club. See for example, the Polish Wikipedia edition has the "assistant coach" and the "commander" (the commander is the general director of the team who also plays a role as managing director). I am not saying to add the "director" parameter, only the "vice president" and the "assistant coach", but if you will see reasonable you may also add the "director" parameter. Thanks SianWeng31 (talk) 15:20, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My friend, you're flogging a dead horse. No one wants it except you. – PeeJay 22:02, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Per above, it's overkill. Kante4 (talk) 22:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
