Why do we need this page in addition to causality? It seems to me the important issues are discussed there, while a silly dictionary-like entry is what we have here. Please explain why this shouldn't be nominated for deletion. --Ryguasu 11:14 Nov 25, 2002 (UTC)
- It seems to be being used as a disambiguation page, which is what I actually mistook it for. Why not make it the disambiguation page, and merge Trigger (disambiguation) into it? -- SCZenz 16:12, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. Then Trigger (disambiguation) can be deleted or redirected here. --Trweiss 04:44, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- Done. There are numerous articles that link here, expecting, evidently, that this is a proper article about firearm triggers. It isn't and it never was. There are also links here relating to electronic percussion. Same problem. I suggest that someone who works on articles about firearms create a proper trigger article and title it Trigger (firearm) or Trigger (weapon) or something like that. Once it's a decent article, move its content here and move the disambig content to trigger (disambiguation). Then Trigger (firearm) can redirect here.--Trweiss 06:23, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Apology for uncivil edit summary
[edit]I don't know if anyone noticed, but just in case... I apologize for my uncivil edit summary. It wasn't at all obvious what to do with the entry that I fixed, since it was in a non-standard format before—which was, in fact, my fault. I fixed it up and moved the original sentence into a stub, but there was no need for me to be cranky about it. ;-) -- SCZenz 01:36, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Merge
[edit]I agree with the proposed merge of Trigger (mechanism). Vicarious 08:59, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]In case someone wonders why so much was deleted recently: This page was marked for cleanup per MoS:DAB, and I deleted the following entries because they defined/explained something instead of disambiguating the articles. For defining things, there is wiktionary (wikt:trigger), which more or less already listed all definitions that I deleted:
- Mechanical trigger, a mechanism to actuate various mechanical devices, used in:
- A firearm trigger actuates a firing sequence. -- kept because of link to Trigger (firearms)
- spear guns
- crossbows
- animal traps (e.g. mousetraps).
- Trigger, the cause of an event:
- Triggering the precipitation of a dissolved material in a supersaturated solution
- Triggering an allergic reaction by exposure to an allergen
- Trigger, a thought, experience or an event that strongly reminds a person of a traumatic experience causing a post-traumatic stress disorder symptom
- Trigger, a condition (and a means to identify it) which fires an event

Separation
[edit]I opened up a new section for physics, including the (already existing) entry for Trigger (particle physics) into the list and moving the link to the 'ATLAS trigger system' to 'see also'.
I think this separation is needed since triggering, especially in particle physics, is not just an aspect of 'computing' but rather a large subject in itself with extensive research devoted to this in the various particle physics collaborations.137.138.161.174 18:18, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
