Hello Quietly and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Hey does this look right, it was on my company webpage as a trivia question,
Solve for x if 2x - 5 < 11 and x + 3 < 20 Answer: Combining two inequalities with 'and'. The answer is x>8 and x<17.
Let me know what you think,Strangealibi 12:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
See if this one makes sense,
I'm confused by it indeed,
If x2 + y2 = 100, and xy = 18, find the value of x - y (** note - that is x and y squared, which is difficult to display in html) Answer: The solution is 8 or -8
This is how it was displayed, I believe this problem does not have a real solution, Strangealibi 15:51, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
re Victory at Sea and notability
[edit]Hi. I think I owe you some answers... As an admin I can delete articles, but it doesn't necessarily follow that I always delete the right articles - I may remove stubs I shouldn't and leave alone some pieces that are better removed. In short, I make mistakes. You may be right, and the band may be notable.
I suggest you pop over to Wikipedia:Notability (music) and confirm if your article did comply with the criteria. If the band does qualify, or even if it needs a bit more work, then you can recreate it or request I undelete it and you can work on it some more. I don't recall the article, but I possibly didn't find enough independent third party sources to establish notability to my satisfaction. If you can provide these references then the article can be resurrected. Of course, you might find another admin at WP:BAND who will do that bit for you.
As for your other question, although your suggestion may limit the damage caused by vandalism it would also limit the good work done by ip editors. While vandalism can be irritating and tedious to clear up the thinking is that there is more good stuff than bad created by anonymous contributors. Also, not all vandalism is by anons - so limiting ip participation does not stop vandalism.
I hope this helps. If you need any other help (like undeleting an article) please feel free to contact me. Cheers. LessHeard vanU (talk) 16:51, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think you answered your second question yourself; we should only react to vandalism. Also, ip's can be reassigned so we don't want to wipe out good edits by someone for something bad someone else did. Thanks for caring and asking, and happy editing. Curvature
[edit]I don't think I understand this. I think all circles and shapes have the same curvature, depending on how close you are to it. As you zoom in on any value of curature it should be reduced, and as you zoom out it increases. Thoughts?Strangealibi (talk) 13:45, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
[edit]Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:19, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
