This Album

[edit]

This album was comprised of early EPs and the 39/Smooth album - which was indeed released in 1990 - but THIS album was compiled and released on July 1st, 1991, despite what it says on the Green Day website (note - they're calling the album 39/Smooth, not the full title, hence your confusion). Here's the amazon link (which may not be valid for much longer since the 2004 re-issue is the common one now): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004W52K/qid=1119986427/sr=1-25/ref=sr_1_25/104-8177935-5774313?v=glance&s=music

Again, it was released July 1, 1991.

PetSounds you are in correct. The album was released, copyrighted and published in 1990 (as printed on the CD and back cover, in-case you don't have it). If you continue changing it again, I have no other choice but to report you. As I told you on your talk page. -- Mike Garcia | talk 19:44, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Compilation?

[edit]

Should this be considered a compilation album? All of it was all older Material except for the final track, and International Superhits is also considered a compilation album and it has 3 non-LP songs.

I was looking at this talk page just to see if anyone else talked about this. My opinion is yes, it is a compilation. 39/Smooth was the official album, and this was the CD release of it, which included songs from other EPs. If it had the same title, it might be considered a rerelease of the original album, but with a new title, I think it's a compilation Joltman 17:15, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

pretty sure it is a compilation--Greenday21 (talk) 00:53, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Greenday21[reply]

Release date dispute

[edit]

OK, let's try and sort this out. As far as I can tell Green Day released 39/Smooth in 1990 as stated on their official website. Later they released this album, which included material from 39/Smooth. However there are different dates given for this albums release.

Mike has pointed out these sources: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7] in support of 1990 as the release date, plus claims the back cover has 1990 as the copyright date.

On the other hand Amazon, allmusic, [8], [9] and [10] point to 1991 as the release date.

If anyone has any additional sources or insight please post them on this page. the wub "?/!" 20:39, 9 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Here is my analysis of the twelve cited sources:

  • 1990 with no explanation: Lyrically Squared, MP3SEarch.RU, and Ginza Music.
  • 1990 Release: Rateyourmusic, Netphoria, and Yahoo Music.
  • January 1990 with no explanation: Lookout Records (the releasing label).
  • 1991 Release: Allmusic, who cite Dec 29, 1989–Jan 2, 1990.
  • 1991 with no explanation: Green Day Discography, Artist Direct.
  • April 1991 Release: Half.com
  • July 1, 1991 Release: Amazon.
  • My copy of the album says copyright 1990.

I think that we can safely assert that the tracks were recorded Dec 29, 1989–Jan 2, 1990. It seems unlikely to me that the CD was relaesed within one month of recording, so I suggest that Lookout Records are stating the creation date rather than the release date. This would be consistent with a copyright date of 1990. The disparity of sources makes all this argument moot. I suggest that someone who cares contacts Lookout to ask them for the specific date of release in the US. —Theo (Talk) 21:59, 9 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think the reason it says 1990 on the back is because when they released it as a compilation they just changed the back cover of the original around a little to list the other songs and albums.

John Kiffmeyer

[edit]

Why the heck does everyone spell John Kiffmeyer wrong? It says in the CD that it's K-I-F-F-M-E-Y-E-R! It is not Kiftmeyer for crying out loud! If people have such a big problem spelling that just call him Al Sobrante.

Some Crazy F*cker

Here's a list of the EP's in this album and release dates

  EP Tracks Date

1,000 Hours 15-18 1989

Slappy 11-14 1991
  • Track 19 I Want to Be Alone was on the compilation THE BIG ONE by [11]Lookout Records

I Own this album and most of my friends who claim to be Green Day fans don't even know it exists

who is the girl?

[edit]

seriously, who is the girl on the front cover of 1,039 smoothed out slappy hours? Is it Adrienne Armstrong?

                   -Tamwyn alex

It's just some girl. Billie didn't even know Adrienne when this was released, he met her on the Kerplunk! tour (if I'm not mistaken). 24.255.39.128 (talk) 17:57, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

/\ That makes no sense,Adrienne served as inspiration for Kerplunk's "80". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.203.82.102 (talk) 20:30, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The girl is named Dia Theodore and I believe she was just a friend of the band. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsnotrocketscientry (talkcontribs) 04:14, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dry Ice

[edit]

I will contend that Dry Ice is the greatest song ever written. 74.129.72.122 (talk) 09:11, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That and "Only of You" are tied for the best I think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.11.174.161 (talk) 07:18, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
