Boxcar

[edit]

I was just a little girl when that photo was taken. I have the foresight to obtain more shots for your use 65 years later. Sorry. <gr> PearlW 10:17, Feb 4, 2005 (UTC)

I hope my comment didn't hurt your feelings. PearlW 07:38, Feb 5, 2005 (UTC)

You mentioned an interest in pics of its "infrastructure"--can you give me some ideas of what you had in mind (I don't know much about rail things)? I have a camera and plenty of free time, and I'm within driving distance of BART, so whenever the weather finally clears I can go take pics of the station and trains, but I'd like to know what else I should be looking for. Thanks for the ideas. Turns out there's a smallish yard not much further than the station closest to me (Fremont). Worst case I'd have to see if I could get something decent from a moving train, but from what I saw from the train (did kinda a dry run today, but it's still too gloomy to take decent pictures) and looking a map I think it might be possible to take one from just outside the fence. This map doesn't show the BART tracks, but the yard is in the blank space between the two Union Pacific tracks shown, just below the red star. Much of the route from Fremont to Oakland at least, is elevated, either on piers (mostly when going over roads, other tracks etc.) like you can (barely) see in the distance in this pic of the tracks leaving the Fremont station, or raised beds.

Pioneer Zephyr

[edit]

That one hit close to home for me, as I lived along the Burlington's racetrack between Chicago and Aurora when I was small. When I toured the PZ at the Museum of Science and industry, it was indoors (or at least sheltered) downstairs somewhere, perhaps in February, 2001? I have a friend (Amtrak road foreman) who is a volunteer at the IRM sand has driven the 9911A on their Nebraska Zephyr, for which I wrote a short article to get red of the red links in the PZ story. I also got a couple of more good photos from LOC for the PZ, but thats all I have. I also wrote the Edward G. Budd article to get rid of the red. Do you know if renowned streamline designer Raymond Loewy was involved with PZ? The PZ sure looks like his design work. Lowery designed the PRR GG1's, and I believe a streamlined car named Lincoln Zephyr.

BTW, I recently updated the Amtrak story and articles on several presidents including Gunn, and have been working on NS predecessor roads. I agree with you about PZ maybe being featured. the biggest hole I see right now is models. Nice work, glad to help. Let me know if I can do anything more. Your next best move to FAC: have User:Niteowlneils look at it, He really knows how to fine-tune the articles, and Raul seems to give his work a lot of (deserved) respect. He would likely be willing to nominate it. He knows how disappointed we were with the autorack and Auto Train failures. He tweaked and put my school bus yellow article up for DYK.

One more thing, I have some photos (off the web) of the Zephyr wreck at Downer's Grove, Illinois (1949 or so). Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 23:50, Feb 26, 2005 (UTC)

We're starting a discussion of the article moves at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (acronyms)#Changing article titles from XXXXX (US) to XXXXX (United States). Feel free to contribute. Thanks! -- hike395 16:17, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)
