The phrase has since taken on an independent life. It is occasionally used by live performers as part of a repartee bidding goodnight to an audience or introducing the last or next to last song of the night.
Is there any evidence that the phrase was, in fact, brought to prominence since this album? I've been hearing it since, I thought, long before 1990...but I'm willing to be corrected.--Bltpdx 00:08, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Phrase Origins
[edit]Is there any reference that contains the phrase "Smoke em if you got em"? I'm curious as to its origins. I've heard so many version of the meaning and origin that I'm skeptical that this one is correct. --Bigbadman (talk) 14:08, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
The origin is perhaps debatable, but the meaning given on the main page is without a doubt correct. I was dismayed to find that the popular slang site Urban Dictionary featured two well-regarded (ie, voted up by the members) definitions for this phrase, neither of which is even close to accurate, both of which contradict even each other. This means that young people no longer have the slightest idea what the phrase actually means, and, as it's slang to start with, this puts its existence as a current, living expression in serious doubt. But anyway, at least when it WAS a living phrase, it meant what the main page here currently states perfectly - Do what you want, if you have the means. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.227.77.90 (talk) 10:50, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Smoke em if you got em.jpg

In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
