First comment
[edit]Are you sure that the operation is called Renntier with double n? The german word for Reindeer is written wiht one n: Rentier. (comment added by 141.20.54.123)
- You are probably correct, since I just copied the name from a finnish book and most likely made a typo. But google does give hits for "Operation Renntier" and some of them are not Wikipedia clones. (Operation Rentier get zero hits) -- Jniemenmaa 12:25, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I doubted this spelling, too, but I found out that "Renntier" is an ancient spelling of Rentier. So, the name of the operation may (probably) really have had the double n. --Kräuter-Oliven 20:01, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I've re-jigged the wording in this, to make it flow better. I hope it meets with approval. Xyl 54 (talk) 17:36, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Spelling, again
[edit]The spelling used here, "Renntier", may be unorthodox, but (according to the discussion above) it also appears to be the one used. If anyone has a source which uses the spelling "Rentier" for this operation, please bring it to the discussion. Xyl 54 (talk) 06:05, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- I have a vague memory of seeing a photo of wartime German typewritten document where the word is used (with double-n). I'll go through some books to check if I can find it. --Whiskey (talk) 07:15, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
