List of Texas State Highways

[edit]

I noticed that you seem to be doing most of the editing in this and the related article. I suggest changing List of Texas State Highways to a redirect to List of Texas highways since they both appear to have the same information. This makes sense based on what links to those pages. Having both seems confusing. Vegaswikian 00:40, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you're working on the Texas Highways project here. I'm actually interested in getting in on that, and have been working on my own personal site (link on my talk page). Granted the scope of this project and my site are somewhat different, but there is certainly some overlap. If there is anyway we could do information and research sharing, I would certainly be interested! --Kinu 04:04, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hundreds of street signs on commons

[edit]

Well... there HAS to be a reason for uploading tons of farm-to-market signs and stuff. But please don't tell me, they are only for this list were no one ever will write articles about them. --Avatar-en 17:34, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I start a discussion on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#Texas-roads
Please tell me there, do you want to write a real interesting wikipepia-page about every street?
I think there are other systems for streets like maps.google.com.
(And sorry for my bad english)de:Benutzer:kolossos 18:22, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Well, I'd like to thank you for uploading all of those signs. I've already used several (at SH 78, SH 114, SH 121 and SH 190). I was actually curious if you had any plans to getting around to things like Loops, Spurs, Business highways, etc.
And I do hope that somebody makes articles for these farm roads (I'd thought about starting to myself). They're big deals here in Texas! RADICALBENDER 18:52, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

All of the following made their way to WP:SFD:

--Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 03:59, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason this template doesn't use the word "state", like all the other stubs for state highways/routes? --Mairi 04:01, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A more standard name would be {{Texas-State-Highway-stub}}. I'll go ahead and move it to that. The category perhaps should be changed to include "state", but another state highway rename at WP:SFD might not be the best idea right, so I'll leave that alone. --Mairi 04:30, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I made the change. I didn't mean to intrude on your article. I found it listed in Category:Category needed and decided to put it in a category as an IP edit. I had some trouble figuring out just how to code it. User:12.219.223.159 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps instead of a declaratory 'stop doing XYZ' comment, you could help to educate me as to why what I am doing is a problem. I am in the process of updating the List of Liberty ships page, and more than a few were "laid down" and/or launched with a civilian name but then taken over by the United States Navy and renamed. I thought it would be most beneficial to have a redirect from the civilian name to the Navy name. Is there harm in doing it this way?

Also, my apologies for misspelling "redirect" on one page. (Not all of us are perfect, you know.) — Bellhalla 04:43, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You mischaracterize it. It was a request, since I said "please". It is a Wikipedia guideline Wikipedia:No blank pages, not exactly a policy, but one that I think is worth following. Hu 04:57, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of Liberty ships

[edit]

I notice you're doing a great job dividing up the List of Liberty ships. I did an M page just because I was interested in the SS Martin Behrman, but it doesn't have all the data you're coming up with. Please feel free to fill in the blanks, or advise me where to get the appropriate data and I'll do it. Thanks. — Muffuletta 16:47, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also noticed the great work. Thanks. Oldfarm 21:38, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John B. Jones

[edit]

I removed the Texas Senate info from the John B. Jones page. Jones was 15 years old in 1849, so he could not possibly have been elected to the State Senate that year. Also, the Handbook of Texas does not mention his having been in the State Senate. Steve Casburn 21:16, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you've edited a couple of articles I've started. Are you a scholar of local history? I certainly am not, just an enthusiast. Any chance I could solicit your attention to a few others I've posted? You seem to have this thing down.

PS neato thing on the handbook of texas template (is that what it's called?). I'm going to have to remember that.

Texas highway templates nominated for deletion.

[edit]

Greeting. I wanted to let you know that I've nominated some templates you created for deletion, as they appear to be unused, overly complicated, and contain redlinks unlikely to be filled. The templates are Template:TxHwy/routebox/bottom/FM, Template:TxHwy/routebox/bottom/RM, Template:TxHwy/routebox/bottom/SL, and Template:TxHwy/routebox/bottom/SS, and the discussion can be found at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion. bd2412 T 14:53, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John Sayles

[edit]

I have recently observed a lot of redlinks to Texas politicians on dab pages, and if you're going to write articles on them, that's just fine. If you have no such plans, I'm wondering how all the redlinks make Wikipedia better. But the John Sayles dab page is a little out of control; making a dab page just for redlinks is pushing it just a bit. Even if you actually write an article for John, no dab page will be needed, just a hatnote at the top of the film director's article. This is explained in WP:D. If you have a question, ask here or on my talk page; I'll watch both pages. Chris the speller 22:15, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unusual place names

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for letting me know about Braggadocio. To give you the background to my salvage2 page ... the real Unusual Place Names page was up for deletion recently, and looked like it would disappear from Wikipedia as a result of overzealous deletionism on the part of some editors. I thought it a wise precaution to take a copy of it. As it turns out it still exists (in fact it exists in two places now, which is perhaps not the result that those nominating for deletion wanted, but they seem happy!). I don't intend to maintain my page, and should perhaps delete it. If you want to add Braggadocio to the main page though, there's nothing stopping you. Hi! I'm very happy to run into another editor from Texas. I saw your edits on NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, and all of them were very good. However, I wanted to let you know that I put the players from the "Next 10" back in the order they were in. This was the order that they were presented on the show based on the number of votes each of them had from the 14-member panel (Tim Duncan had the most, Kobe Bryant second most, etc.). I've also added a note about this order. Let me know if you have any comments or concerns, and keep up the good work! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 04:54, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Texas State Highways WikiProject?

[edit]

I've joined up over at the US Roads Project, with an interest in tackling the massive task of going after the Texas roads. I have a question on your Route Box, though, and I want to make sure I understand its' usage, in the "Junction" section: The terminal intersections of the road should be bolded, and when a road is concurrent, it should be in light blue. If an intersecting road is itself concurrent with something else, use orange, and list all of them? Is that right? I really like the template. I'll be creating the project page this weekend, and will start with rationalizing some of the ones that others have added, based on your work. Any suggestions? Do you think you'll be able to be active on this? --DavidBavousett 01:07, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Succession Box WikiProject

[edit]

I have created a new WikiProject for succession boxes located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Succession Box Standardization. Now we can discuss what needs to be fixed in a forum and make it into a larger project among Wikipedians. Not that I want too much infighting, but we all have had some disagreements and never know where to discuss them, so now we have a place. Come and join. Don't forget to sign the participant list if you want in.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Salsoul.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Salsoul.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Tom DeLay's time in the Texas House

Thanks for adding the TX House succession box to Tom DeLay. Do you know anything further about DeLay's time in the Texas House? Anything you could add would be appreciated. Thanks, NatusRoma | Talk 19:30, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey there. It would probably be better to modify the template itself to make the 'candidate=' variable bold by default. In my opinion, it's better to do that than create self links. I was using a tool which searched for self links and alerted me to edit them out, and I haven't thought of a time where they had a place in an article. If you have any better ideas, feel free to let me know. --Sagaciousuk (talk) 17:02, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kudos

[edit]

Great job! Your recent edits to Magical negro show real dedication to Wikipedia's quality standards ... the Examples section has been a cruft-magnet that requires constant monitoring to revert "I think that XXX in YYY is an example" edits by newbies ... having such well organized and regularized citations may give some of them pause ... as for myself, I'll be more careful about using "cite news" and "cite journal" instead of "cite web" when I cleanup other articles where simple external links have been used, and I'll probably spend more time researching the citations to fill in more fields, thanks to your inspiring example. :-) —68.239.79.97 (talk · contribs) 14:19, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:The_Best_Years_of_Our_Lives_(album_cover).jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
