Move
[edit]I moved this from Mellow Yellow (album) to Mellow Yellow, as there was no need for the disambiguated title [unsigned]
Mellow Yellow Pills?
[edit]I heard that the words "mellow yellow" were inspired by the depressent drug that came out as pills and the color was yellow. So uppers made you active, and downers made you "mellow". So the new drugs/high was called mellow yellow? [unsigned]
- pentobarbital or Nembutal was a short-acting barbiturate, known as "yellows" in the 1970's. The "little yellow pills" in the Rolling Stones song "Mother's Little Helper" were Valium, and "Yellow Submarine' was supposed to be a referrence to LSD, but some people said it also referred to Nembutal.Pustelnik (talk) 22:55, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- I though I heard it in an interview from Donovan. But it was a long time ago? [unsigned]
When we were kids, the rumor was that it was the high you got from smoking banana peels. Of course, we only believed that when we were very young. [unsigned]
I understood Mellow Yellow referred to Saffron as in Donovans song, not Bannanas? Bill R —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.88.141.194 (talk) 04:56, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
But what does "Fourteen" refer to? [unsigned] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.173.90.93 (talk) 16:31, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
Bananas in Pyjamas
[edit]The Bananas in Pyjamas did a cover of this song for ABC Australia. [unsigned]
Split with Pye records
[edit]The split with Pye records and the subsequent collaberation with Mickie Most was an importantpoint in his career.
Is the "I tidied up my last affair" verse in Bleak City Woman a reference to this? [unsigned]
The Simpsons
[edit]Homer is humming a line of the title track in the episode "I Am Furious Yellow" when he is oppressing his anger. Afterwards the tune from the song is played in intermission.

Jimmy Page?
[edit]The article says "Jimmy Page, of Led Zeppelin fame, is heard playing the solo on this song." There's no guitar solo in Mellow Yellow. Perhaps thinking of Hurdy Gurdy Man? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paddy McQ (talk • contribs) 01:01, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
As I understand it, Jimmy Page plays the guitar solo on Sunshine Superman another one of Donovan's hits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.43.131 (talk) 14:25, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Personnel
[edit]This source gives the following:
- Donovan: vocals / acoustic guitar
- Joe Moretti: rhythm guitar
- John McLaughlin: rhythm guitar
- Marvin Stamm: flugelhorn
- Danny Moss: saxophone
- Ronnie Ross: saxophone
- Paul McCartney: background vocals (uncredited)
- John Paul Jones: bass / arrangement
- Bobby Orr: drums
And I have no reason to doubt it. A "more acceptable" source would be welcomed. The personnel section at the album article [Mellow Yellow article might be a good starting place (if there was one). Martinevans123 (talk) 22:41, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
- I think you may have the wrong John Paul Jones LOL. CsikosLo (talk) 15:24, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
