- 1923 – Sir William Mackenzie (pictured), part owner of Toronto Street Railway and builder of Canadian Northern Railway predecessors, dies (b. 1849).
- 1937 – The last run on the Mount Lowe Railway in Southern California carries a group known as "The Railroad Boosters" who sought to preserve the railway for future riders as a heritage railway.[1]
- 1996 – Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway reopens Stampede Pass in Washington and resumes operating freight trains over the line.[2]
- 1998 – Trinity Railway Express in Texas adds Saturday train schedules to its timetables and begins operating the first regular Saturday trains.[3]
