The article on Carey seems to be based on an uncritical acceptance of the fallacy that creating more money makes people better off. More Greenbacks would have prevented control of the economy by "British Capitalists", hard times are caused by banks "not providing the public with all the money they need" and on and on.2.221.143.240 (talk) 21:03, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some Thoughts/Any Carey Experts?

[edit]

I would like to contest the idea that the law of diminishing returns is a "universal truth." This is really a political economist's way of looking at it; but Henry Carey is a physical economist. Besides that, even the law of diminishing returns page questions whether this is a law. If truth be told, Marx himself did not think this was a law, rather, a mere function of the rise in constant capital in any capitalist system, with the resulting fall in variable, and, thenceforth, the loss of surplus-value to the capitalist. I am sure Carey has a solution to the law, but I haven't read enough of Carey to ascertain this. Will anyone be offended if we omit it? Please provide some explication. If we converse without "debating", things might even prove to be greatly enjoyable. And if I don't receive some responses within a few days, I may take it upon myself to delete it.
