I don't understand this quote from Howard Stern: "He calls me 'Stern,' and I'm not sure what that's about." The context is supposed to be Stern accusing Carolla of attempting "to get Melendez riled up." How is this in any way riling up Melendez? And why would Howard Stern have a problem with Adam Carolla calling Howard Stern by his name? I understand this is a quote from another article, but this confuses me. Is it that Carolla is not using his full name? Should Carolla be referring to him as "Howard Stern"? "Mr. Stern"? "Mr. Howard Stern"? "Howard"? What is the problem here? I would understand if Carolla were calling him "Howie" or "Stein" or some other butchering of his name to get a rise out of him, but "Stern" IS his name. Was Carolla using Stern as a pun or double entendre? Was Carolla saying it in a mocking tone or with an affected emphasis or accent? I can't see how using someone's last name should be held against Carolla. Is it disrespectful in some way I am not seeing? I could see how Carolla being overly familiar and calling him "Howard" could be perceived as rude, especially if they didn't know each other personally, though still not a mortal sin. Referring to someone by last name is standard practice in all forms of media, so I don't get the issue. Even if it were indecorous or untoward by some metric, I still wouldn't understand how it would constitute a riling up of Melendez.66.91.36.8 (talk) 09:49, 5 April 2022 (UTC)66.91.36.8 (talk) 09:34, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
